Features

Design

Black & Decker produces some of the best work tables and workbenches around, and the WM1000 Workmate Workbench is one of its most popular for obvious reasons!

First of all, the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench is very much multifunctional since it serves both as a working table and a sanding tool. As you may see from its design, there is a long bar at the bottom with the legs. This bar not only serves as a standing step but is just as much as useful to rest your foot while you work.

As for the worktable, it is not the widest on longest, but the best design feature about the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench is that its working surface is expandable! How so? Well, it’s the block of wood in the center of the table removes easily to create more room and accommodate wood ply for your projects. Speaking of which, the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench furthermore has clamps with multiple, multi-angle bench dogs which allow a wide range of sawing, nailing, brushing, painting, welding action! One very small yet handy detail is that the working table features a printed-on measuring scale which eliminates the need to manual measuring with a tape every time.

One less work to do and we love it! Other than this, the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench comes unassembled, but it comes with all the necessary hardware and instructions so you are good for that. It is furthermore very easy to open and pack up. Just pull the bar in the center of the table and pull the side knob, and it is open and ready in seconds. Same for when you when to pack up- push in the bar and it is packed into a flatter, smaller body. Stores easily and perfect traveler!

Dimensions

Without the expansion, the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench offers you a working surface that measures 26 inches in length and 17.7 inches in width. Not the largest, but still not small enough for you to frown upon. As for height, it is nearly 31 inches, which is pretty good for most types of jobs. You do not need to bend over and hunch too much, nor reach too high. The height is somewhere in the middle so that’s safe.

Construction

Speaking of safety, the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench is made from heavy-duty and high-quality steel gauge framework. As for the top working block, you have a wooden bamboo top. This means that the workbench is ready for some serious weight holding. 550 pounds to be precise! Yep. This 38 pounder of a workbench can accommodate up to 550 pounds in weight, which we think is amazing! Apart from this, the 4-leg construction furthermore means that it will not only be able to take on the weight but also even distribute it on the floor, ground, whatever. What’s a little disappointing however is that it has several plastic parts? Something we are not a fan of as of yet.

Warranty

Last but not least, maybe to cushion that flaw alone, the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench comes with a warranty for parts along with a 2-year warranty.

  1. What is the widest piece of wood or plank the workmate 1000 can hold?

Answer: Great questions! It seems as if the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench can accommodate wooden planks up to 24 inches in width. Pretty good, we say!

  1. Can I keep the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench outside in the open?

Answer: While we do admit that the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate is darn durable and robust, we still do not feel as if it would be able to survive outdoors. And let’s not forget that it has a bamboo working surface which has a rep of warping. Better safe than sorry, Let’s keep it inside.

  1. 3. Does the Black & Decker WM1000 Workmate Workbench come with swivel grip pegs?

Answer: Yes, it does. And you get 4 counts of the Workmate Swivel Grip Peg.

  1. Is the top board made entirely from bamboo?

Answer: No. It is but only laminated bamboo. The interior is made from some sort of pressed sawdust. Very stiff nonetheless.

  1. How do I open the dual-height feature?

Answer: Just turn the orange knob to the left as you are facing the top.

Conclusion

We are almost at the end of our workmate 1000 review, and well, we are a tad bit disappointed, to say the least. The workmate 1000 is a good product, by all means, but it seems to lack the Black and Decker oomph and quality. Nonetheless, it is strong, sturdy and versatile at the end of the day and could furthermore be sued as a second working table. But that’s about all we see in it. For that price, you could probably get workbenches a lot more high quality and competent. Not bad, but not good enough for us. Pass.
